SuperFriend is a nationwide health promotion foundation that helps ‘all profit to member’ superannuation funds to promote and support improved mental health and wellbeing for their members, through the workplace. Created by the Industry Funds Forum, SuperFriend works with partnering superannuation funds, group life insurers and the mental health sector to facilitate targeted workplace mental health and wellbeing initiatives.
SuperFriend’s work focuses on the development, promotion and facilitation of information, resources, and programs about mental health and wellbeing. By improving people’s understanding of mental health and wellbeing, SuperFriend seeks to influence and foster mentally healthy, supportive work environments where people flourish and thrive.
SuperSPAN (SuperFriend Suicide Prevention Assistance Network) is a pilot program developed by SuperFriend aimed at preventing suicide in rural areas by upskilling and empowering Client Relationship Managers, Regional Managers and Financial Planners from SuperFriend’s Partner Funds to support those at risk of, or affected by, suicide – particularly people in financial distress.
The pilot was a two-day seminar in Port Macquarie which trained participants to: understand the impact of rural adversity on mental health, recognise when someone may be at risk of suicide, engage with and support them to seek assistance, and communicate empathetically and effectively with those bereaved following a suicide.
